Baby Boomers Less Healthy Than Parents

Research suggest that baby boomers, the generation that exercised excessively and has dined on organic food, will ultimately age less healthy than the generation before them.

A University of California study revealed that boomers will be more susceptible to debilitating diseases than in years past. Researcher Teresa Seeman studied a group in their 60s, 70s, and 80s, and compared them with an earlier group the same ages examined ten years earlier. The results were alarming. “One in five people in their 60s today require assistance in accomplishing daily activities. This number is 50 percent higher than it was a decade ago.”

The study found that technological advancements have played a significant role in creating poor health. “As Americans have generally been weaned off of physical labor and instead placed in front of computer screens throughout the years, the level of physical activity among the population has dropped significantly.”

Technological advancements that propelled baby boomer careers and enabled them to earn more income, is proving to be their downfall as they get older in life. Boomers over 60 are fatter and weaker than previous generations the same age, and are more susceptible to chronic ailments that curtail quality of life. Lack of effective exercise has contributed to a 50 percent increase in boomers having trouble performing simple activities such as walking a quartermile or climbing a small set of stairs. The study also documented a 40 percent increase in subjects who have trouble bending their knees to crouch, kneel or get up from a chair.

Health experts are recommending the obvious - improve diet and exercise.
