The Cheese Board is a fabulous place to grab a quick bit to eat in Reno's oldest Southwest neighborhood.
Located on California Ave., it draws a wide and varied crowd from neighboring business as well as locals who just enjoy the quaint yet trendy environment.
Open since 1981 in what the owners describe as the area's first specialty cheese and wine boutique, The Cheese Board today is a popular American Bistro and Catering Company.
Patrons who visit The Cheese Board can dine both inside or out in front under an awning weather permitting; regulars know the noon lunch hour can sometimes pose challenges finding a table. Service is always great, and the wait time is minimal.
Lunches at The Cheese Board, between 10-4 p.m, feature fresh soups, salads, sandwiches, entrees, desserts and wine by the bottle or glass. Of course specialty coffee and ice tea are available.
Everyday sandwiches include grilled or regular with assorted cheeses on your choice of bread. Some selections include Pastrami & Swiss on Rye with Dijon mustard; Tuna Melt with Swiss and tomato; Chicken & Swiss on a French roll with lettuce, or Roast Beef Focaccia with horseradish cream. The Cheese Board also offers smoked Turkey Focaccia with Basil Pesto; a Veggie Focaccia with Eggplant, and a Fiesta Chicken Focaccia with Jack, guacamole, green chilies, tomato, onions, lettuce & mayo.
If salad is your favorite the classic Caesar Salad with Hearts of Romaine, shaved Parmesan, and house-made croutons is a must. The Grilled Chicken Caesar is also available, and salads are offered in a half or whole size. A House Green Salad is tossed with Parmesan, Tarragon-Dijon, Champagne Brie, or Balsamic Vinaigrette.
Italian Pasta Salad with basil vinaigrette, tomatoes, olives, bell peppers, and Parmesan can be found on the menu, as well as Baby Spinach Salad with shaved Parmesan and toasted pecan dressing.
Of course, one can order a cup or bowl of soup with half a sandwich, or salad.
The Cheese Board also provides daily specials, full service off-premise or inhouse catering of breakfast, lunch, and dinner packages. Additionally, the dinning room can also be privately catered after hours.

The Popular Chef's Suppers are held every third Wednesday of the month. Foodies can dine on a three course meal, carefully selected and partnered to the season. For example, in November the menu offered a Bibb Lettuce with Spiced Pumpkin Seeds, and a Cranberry Vinaigrette with a Petite Manchego Flan. Grilled Lamb Chops with Queso Blanco Polenta, Cranberry Sauce and Cranberries Chutney was the main course, following with Sweet Potato Pie and Crunchy Cranberry Topping.
