The QuickLift

As many of us begin to age, new advances in plastic surgery are making it easier to obtain a years younger appearance. The desire to roll back the clock can improve self esteem in knowing we are aging our best.

One of the latest procedures that both men and women are taking advantage of is a technique called the QuickLift. The QuickLift is an outpatient procedure that lifts and tightens loose skin in the lower region of the face, lifting the jowls, the neck line, and the chin; areas that make many of us look haggard and tired as we age. What is revolutionary about the QuickLift is that it is minimally invasive, and is a more conservative procedure than the traditional facelift. The procedure takes about an hour to perform; patients have minimal bruising, postoperative swelling, risk of complications, and recover more quickly to get back to daily activities

Reno Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Boris Volshteyn, M.D., M.S., Sierra Plastic Surgery, specializes in the QuickLift procedure. Highly trained in a wide range of cosmetic plastic surgery procedures, his office offers a free consultation on the QuickLift. Upon arrival to the surgery center, Laura Ann Kelley, patient relations specialist, provides a very thorough explanation of the procedure, and the results one can expect depending on facial structure.

Procedure
QuickLift - Procedure 1The QuickLift procedure pulls the muscle and skin in the face, neck, and chin region upward. An incision is made in the hairline at the temples, extending in a natural line in front of the ear (or just inside the cartilage at the front of the ear), and continued behind the earlobe to the lower scalp. If the neck needs work, a small incision may also be made under the chin. The skin is separated from the fat and muscle below it. Fat may be trimmed or suctioned from around the neck, chin and jowls to improve the contour.

Dr. Volshteyn then tightens the underlying muscle and membranes with purse-string sutures, pulls the skin back and removes the excess. Stitches secure the layers of tissue and close the incisions; metal clips may be used in the scalp. Stitches will be removed in about five days, while stitches or metal clips in the hairline are left in a few days longer.

The QuickLift procedure is performed in a fully equipped, outpatient surgery center located at Sierra Plastic Surgery. Patients are discharged and go home the same day after recovery. Patients are up and about in a day or two, but are advised to go easy the first week, gradually resuming normal activities. Most patients are back at work seven days to two weeks after surgery.

Fraxel Laser Treatment People looking for skin rejuvenation are being introduced to another new technique called the Fraxel Laser Treatment for treatment of sun damaged skin, lines around the eyes, brown spots, and acne.

Fraxel Laser Treatment improves the skin much like the more invasive laser skin resurfacing treatment but without the down time.

Procedure
QuickLift - Image 2 The Fraxel Laser Treatment produces thousands of tiny, deep columns in your skin known as microthermal treatment zones. The procedure eliminates old epidermal pigmented cells, penetrating deep into the dermis. Dr. Volshteyn explains that more important are the areas of skin the Fraxel laser leaves untouched! For every microthermal zone the laser targets and treats intensively, it leaves the surrounding tissue unaffected and intact. This fractional treatment allows the skin to heal much faster than if the entire area were treated all at once, using the body's natural healing process to create new, healthy, tighter tissue to replace skin imperfections.

Fraxel Laser Treatment targets between 20 and 25 percent of the skin's surface. Treatments require four sessions, spaced two to four weeks apart. Results are immediate but optimal improvement is visible in about two to three months. The Fraxel Laser Treatment is performed in the office. Patients experience a mild sunburn sensation for one to two hours after treatment. Redness and swelling varies depending on skin and treatment, but it generally resolves in two to three days. New epidermal skin develops immediately, developing a bronze appearance within three to 14 days, followed by natural exfoliation as the reorganized skin replaces dead tissue. In the ensuing weeks and months, the body repairs the deeper dermal tissues treated by Fraxel Laser Treatment, producing beneficial changes that continue to improve.
