Welcome to Generation Boomer.
As many of us enter the boomer years, views on what it means to age in today’s world looks very different than our parent’s generation. In a special report, The Future of Getting Old, six areas are identified with getting old that could change what aging looks like in years to come.
“The world’s population is getting old. We need to talk about what aging is, and what it can be,” says Dr. Pol Vandenbroucke, head of Medical Strategy at Pfizer. “While there are still many uncertainties on the aging horizon, many of us can take steps now to make sure old age won’t just mean living long, but living well.”
The report “Future of Getting Old” points to Biology of Aging, Aging Independently, A New Take on Elderly Care, Think Again: Dementia, Lovegvity Dividend, and Millennial Model for Aging. All these areas are designed to kick off the discussion of healthy aging and the opportunity to increase life expectancy. Reading of the study can get found at www.GetOld.com.
Similarly along the same line of thinking, Dr. Roger Landry, a preventive medicine physician, has written Live Long, Die Short, a book about extending a long healthy life, and compressing the morbidity period. Live Long, Die Short additionally offers tips and insights backed by research, and real-life stories to guide the reader along to achieve a positive experience with aging.
Of course, boomers are making time today to plan the second or last third of life and to build in a little fun. Planning to guarantee there is less stress along the way is half the battle.
