If you don’t like broccoli, don’t force yourself to eat it for good health... That word comes from an 8-decade old study that says the leafy green vegetable may not improve your chances of living a longer life. The Longevity Project, written by Howard S. Friedman and Leslie R. Martin draws rather intriguing findings from a huge study that followed the lives of 1,500 people. In the quest to improve our chances of hitting 100, The Longevity Project will question everything you’ve learned about good health.

For those who believe exercise is good for us, Joyce Swanson Hall writes a story about serious workouts. Boot camps as they are known, provide challenging routines that feature core and cardio exercise, and weight training. Classes target muscle building and endurance. Those who find the classes difficult are urged to adapt to lower impact exercises, and work within the proper heart rate for age. Classes held in the area generally are open to all age groups, and work to improve fitness and overall health.

Profiled in this issue of Generation Boomer is a familiar face we encourage you get to know. Katie Pace, a Regional Representative for U.S. Senator Dean Heller, is making good strides helping constituents. Baby boomers with questions about Social Security claims, Medicare, Medicaid, and health care in general will find her a wealth of information. Katie and husband Dwight Pace are the owner’s of Pace’s Pizza Balls. The restaurant, a brainchild of Dwight and brother David, offers pizza variations in a golden crusted ball. The different flavors are as fun to eat as its name sounds. Pace’s Pizza Balls is located in The Summit in Reno.
